Investigators who viewed surveillance video said Antonio Alexander Foreman, 24, of Plantation, was seen reaching into a black satchel and shortly after discharged the gun while inside the store.
Moments later, Miami Beach police said Foreman was seen removing the black satchel, placing it on the floor and walking away.
Investigators confirmed Foreman later returned to the store, picked up the satchel and left the establishment without attempting to verify if any person was seriously injured or if aid was necessary.
The victim, a woman, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital by Miami Beach Fire Rescue after sustaining injuries to both legs due to the “muzzle flash” from the gun, according to police.
Police said another bystander was also transported to JMH’s Ryder Trauma Center after sustaining an injury to his left foot from the projectile.
Upon locating Foreman, police said they inquired about the gun’s whereabouts, to which he disclosed he had stashed it in an opening of a trashcan behind a shoe store on Ocean Court.
While speaking to detectives, Foreman admitted to possessing the gun and stated the discharge was accidental, according to his arrest report.
He expressed remorse for any injuries but stated he fled out of fear and hid the gun to avoid being caught, police said.
Jail records show Foreman is facing charges of tampering with physical evidence while armed and culpable negligence after inflicting personal injury.
As of Wednesday, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not been determined.
