Over 20 migrants claiming to be from Cuba come ashore in Florida Keys

DUCK KEY, Fla. – Approximately two dozen migrants landed in the Florida Keys Monday night, prompting a response from multiple agencies.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers and FHP troopers assisted the U.S. Border Patrol on Duck Key, where the migrants made it to shore.

The migrants said they were from Cuba and had been at sea for two days.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were also on scene and were looking for the vessel that was believed to have been beached in nearby mangroves.

Officials said a total of 23 migrants made up the group that came ashore.

The migrants will be medically assessed and taken to the U.S. Border Patrol facility where they will be processed.
