Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff in Oakland Park

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A SWAT standoff in Oakland Park ended with a suspect in custody Monday afternoon, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

A BSO spokesperson said the agency’s detectives were serving an arrest warrant in the 4200 block of Northwest 21st Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. when the man barricaded himself inside of a building in an apartment complex.

Police were at the scene for several hours before authorities detained the man. Residents said they were waiting for hours to get back into their apartments.

Authorities haven’t identified the man taken into custody.
