MIAMI GARDENS. Fla. – Police are investigating after they said a child was killed after being struck by an SUV while on their way school in Miami Gardens Monday morning.
Authorities said the crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. near Northwest 183rd Street and Northwest 47th Avenue.
Police said the child “ran across the street” when he or she was struck.
Sky 10 flew over the scene where a black SUV with front-end damage was stopped in the middle of the road and a police officer was speaking to a man who may have been involved in the crash.
Miami Gardens police confirmed the victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he or she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene following the crash.
It remains unclear if the driver will face any charges.
No other information has been released at this time.
