TAMARAC, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman was shot to death inside a home in Tamarac.
The shooting was reported at 11:43 p.m. Friday in the 4500 block of Northwest 45th Court.
According to BSO spokesman Carey Codd, deputies arrived at the scene to find a woman who had been shot inside of the home.
Authorities have since identified her as 53-year-old Janice Herbert.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Usually it’s very quiet and it’s quite safe,” neighbor Linda Brann told Local 10 News.
Deputies remained staked outside of the home located in the Mainlands of Tamarac Lakes Saturday evening.
“Someone called me and said, ‘Are you alright?’ I said, ‘Yeah, why?’ They said, ‘Well look outside,’” Brann said. “It was quite a few police cars and the roads had ribbons around.”
The crime scene remained taped off Saturday night with deputies stationed both inside and behind the home.
Many in the quiet neighborhood were left wondering what exactly unfolded Friday night.
A scene towards the back of the home of a shattered back window with a chair pulled up created more questions for them.
Codd said BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are investigating.
No other details were immediately released.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
