MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The city of Miami Beach implemented a weekend curfew that is now stirring up commotion with business owners.
Some businesses took the city to court Saturday, urging a Miami-Dade County judge to implement an emergency injunction to stop some of the city’s policies.
They say the “break-up” with spring break has gone too far.
The judge, however, denied their request, although he said he understands the nightclubs are losing significant business due to the curfew.
Before the judge made his ruling, the plaintiffs took the stand to speak about how the injunction is affecting their businesses.
The city manager of Miami Beach also took the stand to speak about why she decided to issue the emergency curfew, saying over the past few days, crowds have continued to get larger at night.
She said there are even more partygoers this weekend to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones also testified, saying a number of weapons have already been seized over the last few days.
The judge ultimately denied the injunction request, saying that at the end of the day, it is in the public’s best interest to keep the midnight curfew in place, which began Friday and lasts through Monday.
