Miami woman attacked by pit bull while trying to protect her yorkie

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A South Florida woman was mauled by a pit bull while trying to save her Yorkshire terrier.

The victim, who lives in Miami, told police she was walking her dog Pochita on Monday in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven located at 2100 45th Street in West Palm Beach when a loose pit bull charged at them, knocking her to the ground.

The woman said she was able to grab Pochita out of the dog’s path, suffering severe bites to both arms in the process.

An officer was seen applying a tourniquet to her arm to control the bleeding in video released to media outlets.

The victim is recovering in the hospital, police said.

Animal control impounded the pit bull and it will be quarantined while police investigate the attack.
