MIAMI – After identifying an Atlanta man as a suspect in a New Year’s Eve armed robbery in a South Beach parking garage, police say they tracked him down to a Brickell hotel Thursday — and he was wearing a key piece of evidence right on his wrist.
Miami Beach police said the crime happened during the last hour-and-a-half of 2023.

They said Dorrin Tiante Collins, 28, and another suspect went up to two victims inside the 1577 Washington Ave. garage, held them at gunpoint and demanded their valuables.
An arrest report states that Collins and the other perpetrator made off with the victims’ jewelry, cellphones, money, credit cards and other items and hopped into a getaway car driven by an accomplice.
Using “surveillance footage, cellular phone records and open-source media,” police said they were able to identify Collins as a suspect.
Police said they found him Thursday at the Fortune House Hotel, a four-star hotel located at 185 SE 14th Terrace in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood.
Collins was wearing the victim’s watch on his wrist, the arrest report states.
It doesn’t state whether he remained in South Florida after the robbery or returned to Atlanta sometime afterward and then came back.
Collins will likely be staying put for the time being, however. According to jail records, he’s being held without bond in Miami-Dade County’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
In addition to the armed robbery charge, he faces two drug charges.
