DAVIE, Fla. ā The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after Davie police shot and killed a man early Friday morning.
According to Davie police, the shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. at a home in the 14500 block of Southwest 24th Street.
āI was in a dead sleep and I heard shots -- seemed like seven or eight shots,ā a neighbor identified only as Betty said.
Another neighbor said her daughter called out to her to drop to the floor when she heard the gunshots.
āMy daughter screamed, āDrop to the floor,ā because her room is in the front with her baby,ā the woman said.
The police department confirmed that none of its officers were injured, however, the suspect was taken to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
Neighbors say a family has lived at the home where the shooting occurred for about two years.
āThe guy, I think, heās the owner,ā one neighbor said. āHeās a very nice guy ā very, very nice guy.ā
Local 10ā²s cameras were rolling as a black Ford Fusion with bullet holes in it was towed away from the home.
Police said children were inside of the home, but they did not witness the shooting.
Police confirmed Saturday that the resident who was a patient on the original medical call has been released from the hospital.
Three Davie police officers have been placed on leave. Authorities havenāt released further details about what led up to the shooting.
They also havenāt publicly identified the man or the officers who opened fire.
