‘You really made me sad’: Woman swipes small dog from hands of 5-year-old girl

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Police are searching for a woman they said stole a small dog right out of the hands of a 5-year-old girl, leaving her in tears.

It happened 11 days ago and 5-year-old Aaliyah Francis has been heartbroken since.

“Bring my dog back because you really made me sad,” she said. “A lady came and she said she wanted to pet the dog and she also said don’t let the dog run away.”

The theft happened in broad daylight on March 2 at approximately 3:30 p.m. along the 1200 block of Northwest 56th Avenue in Lauderhill.

Aaliyah was playing with her friend when the woman approached.

“She pet the dog and took it out of my hand and went in her black car,” the girl said.

While the theft wasn’t caught on the family’s doorbell camera, video from moments after shows the family looking to see if they can find the thief.

Francis was left in tears as her best friend tried to console her.

Her Maltipoo named Krystal has been with the family for nearly a year and means the world to Aaliyah.

Her only wish is to have her precious dog back.

Aaliyah said the woman was short with blonde hair and drove a dark model sedan.

Authorities have been working the case and are actively searching for the woman and dog.

There is also a $2,000 reward for Krystal’s return.

Anyone with information is urged to call Lauderhill police or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
