Family thrilled, relieved after missing Dania Beach cat found 6 weeks later

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Local 10 News Animal Advocate Jacey Birch recently reported on a missing orange cat from Dania Beach named Andy.

Birch is now able to report that Andy is back home with his family after six long weeks of him being missing, with no clue as to what happened to him or where he could have been.

The Resu family received a call from someone who thought they had seen Andy, and all their hopes and prayers were answered in that moment.

Alice Resu was relentless on social media, hanging missing pet posters and even filing a police report and telling her family’s story to Local 10 News.

Countless calls came in, and while many were false reports with no real signs of Andy, one call came in saying their long-lost cat was merely a mile away from their home.

“She said, ‘This cat is skittish, he’s probably not going to come to you,’ so my husband gets out of the car and yells ‘Andy’ and shakes his food, and Andy comes running out, running right to my husband’s arms,” said Resu. “So my husband picked him up and he said, ‘Oh my God, it’s Andy.’ We know it’s Andy, and then, of course, Andy let me snuggle him and you know cry, which we couldn’t help because I was so happy to have him.”

The Resu family took Andy to the vet to scan his microchip and confirm that it was, in fact, their boy Andy.

Now he’s back home with his mom, dad and dog brother, Bailey.

“We’re so happy to have him back and we want to thank everybody and anybody who took part, who looked for him, and gave us calls and contacted us,” said Resu. “It was amazing how many people were involved in looking for Andy.”
