FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Police have identified the victim who they say was gunned down outside of an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale last weekend.
Surveillance videos show when the shooting victim, who authorities identified as 20-year-old Travon Warren, of Pompano Beach, dropping to the ground when his friends tried to save him.
Jason Fogelman, who leads a new neighborhood watch at Fort Lauderdale’s Coral Ridge Isles, said has had an eye on a house for rent on Airbnb, and he and his 9-year-old son witnessed the fatal shooting just outside of it after 1 p.m. Saturday.
“These Airbnb have been bringing problems to our neighborhood for years,” Fogelman wrote in an e-mail.
A Ring camera video from across the street recorded a two-door sports car that appeared to be a Mustang passing by, the sound of five shots fired, and a witness screaming in terror.
The surveillance video also shows a group carrying Warren to a sports utility vehicle. There was yelling and crying. The SUV and a BMW left as the sound of police sirens got closer.
The victim’s blood was still on the ground, near the front door of the house on Sunday. Witnesses’ videos and photos show police officers with long guns and police dogs searching on Saturday.
The shooting did not happen at the apartments at the Casa Del Sol apartment building as first reported, but in the neighboring home where residents said there was a rowdy party on Friday night.
“It just seems that the last couple of years has really gotten out of control,” Fogelman said, adding someone from the party threw a wine bottle.
Fort Lauderdale residents told Local 10 News the home where the shooting occurred is a short-term rental that neighbors have long complained about and feared of trouble there after obvious warning signs leading up to the shooting.
“The night before, there was a massive party,” said Fogelman “There was cars everywhere and they threw something at my mother.”
On Monday, detectives were back out in the neighborhood going door to door searching for anyone who may have seen what led up to the deadly shooting that now has residents concerned.
“Everybody is rattled today,” said Fogelman.
“FLPD has three people detained on scene and we are working to determine if there are any further outstanding suspects involved,” Detective Ali Adamson wrote in a statement on Saturday.
Warren arrived at Broward Health Imperial Point, a hospital north of the crime scene at 6401 N. Federal Highway, in Fort Lauderdale, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday.
“Detectives do not believe any additional suspects are outstanding,” Adamson wrote.
Residents told Local 10 News they plan to meet with local leaders at the Casa Del Sol Community Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss what options they are left with when it comes to short-term rentals in their neighborhood.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call FLPD at 954-828-5700 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
