Videos show latest police shootings in Broward, Miami

MIAMI – Videos show deputy and police-involved shootings that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating in Broward County’s city of Pompano Beach and Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting was shortly before 11:30 p.m., on Wednesday, near the intersection of West Copans Road and Blount Road after Rafael A. Molina, 59, of Lake Worth, shot and killed Warren H. Chambers, 42, of Apopka.

The three BSO deputies involved were on administrative assignment pending the investigation. Sheriff Gregory Tony said the murder suspect fired at deputies and the deputies returned fire.

“The armed suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives learned the suspect shot and killed his co-worker,” Veda Coleman-Wright, a BSO spokeswoman, wrote in a statement.

In Miami, witness video shows the police-involved shooting that injured Donald Armstrong on Thursday at his family home near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Court and 57 Street.

Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales released a statement saying that aside from the FDLE investigation there was also an ongoing department internal investigation.

“Transparency and accountability to our community will always remain our goal,” Morales said.

The chief also asked everyone in the community to pray for Armstrong and his family. Armstrong’s mother called 911 for help and pleaded with officers not to kill him.

“I pledge to ensure that our department does better in addressing calls involving mental and behavioral issues,” Morales said.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about these or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
