Family seeks justice after woman fatally shot, thrown from vehicle in Broward

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – The family of a 21-year-old woman is seeking justice after they say she was fatally shot and then thrown from a vehicle in Broward County on Tuesday.

Local 10 News spoke with Michelle Johnson, who said that her sister, Mikesha Johnson, was attending a party in Hollywood where she got into an argument with other men over items that were reportedly stolen.

According to Mikesha Johnson’s family, other men at the party threatened to kill her if they didn’t get those items back.

Michelle Johnson says the situation over the missing items had nothing to do with her sister.

“Why did she go into her car?” Local 10 News reporter Rosh Lowe asked Michelle Johnson.

“I don’t know,” she replied. “She was shot in the face, arm and thrown out of the vehicle.”

Michelle Johnson said shortly after her sister was thrown out of the vehicle, the driver crashed into a tree.

After the shooting occurred, authorities confirmed a perimeter was set up by police Tuesday morning as they searched for two people following a crash along U.S. 1 and Wiley Street in Hollywood.

A Local 10 News crew was in the area as police blocked off the gray Mustang convertible with police tape.

Officers from both jurisdictions were also spotted at another scene along U.S. 1 and Pembroke Road in Hallandale Beach, where a witness told Local 10 News he saw a woman collapse.

“I rode my bike over to her,” said witness Lequan Payne. “I stood over her and asked, ‘Miss, are you alright? Are you alright?’ I was just trying to see if she was alright because she fell hard.”

Payne said he began detouring cars because the woman was in the middle of the street. Soon after, a car with more witnesses inside approached him and said they witnessed the woman being thrown out of another vehicle in Hallandale Beach.

The witnesses called 911 and an ambulance quickly arrived. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Surveillance video shows the moments of the crash that occurred around 4 a.m. Two people are seen jumping out of the car and fleeing east.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 and can receive a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Mikesha Johnson’s loved ones created a GoFundMe page where donations will go towards her funeral expenses. To view the page, click here.
