Police said upon their arrival, they found a white Mercedes C300 that was “badly damaged” near a median along Sunrise Boulevard.

The driver, who police identified as Xa’Vion Ty-Rique Bolden, 18, of Lauderdale Lakes, who was 17 years old at the time of the crash, was driving with three passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash, according to the affidavit.

According to the car’s data recorder, Bolden was driving 111 miles per hour just 3.5 seconds before the crash and 80 miles per hour at the moment of impact, police confirmed.

First responders pronounced one of the trapped passengers, who police identified as Nathan Kamae Pierre Mervilus dead at the scene. The affidavit stated that the other two passengers were transported to Broward Health Medical Center to treat their injuries.

Authorities said one of those passengers involved in the crash, who they identified as Jude Thompson, sustained serious injuries to his thigh.

Police said they spoke with Bolden following the crash, who had visible injuries to his head.

Bolden told police he was the driver of the Mercedes and was stuck in the windshield until someone helped him out after the crash occurred, the report stated.

The investigation revealed significant evidence of reckless driving, including the presence of over 165 feet of skid marks on the road, police said.

Those marks indicated that the vehicle had begun to lose control before ultimately crashing into two palm trees, the affidavit stated.

Police confirmed the severity of the crash led to Mervilus’ death, which they say was attributed to “multiple blunt force injuries.”

Jail records show Bolden is facing one count of vehicular homicide and three counts of reckless driving causing property damage.

As of Wednesday, he is being held at the Broward Main Jail, where his bond was set at $75,000.
