Parking, towing fees to increase in South Beach during spring break

SOUTH BEACH, Fla. ā€“ Parking during spring break in South Beach is going to be more expensive starting on Thursday and towing fees will double.

The city is enforcing a $30 flat rate for the use of parking garages and surface lots in the Arts & Entertainment District.

ā€œI think that itā€™s a really good idea,ā€ said John Dobson, a Miami Beach resident.

That is because the high prices only apply to tourists. Kevin Alexander, a resident, said events are very problematic and he doesnā€™t think that will dissuade tourists from visiting South Beach.

ā€œSpring break isnā€™t the most egregious thing that makes life busy around here thatā€™s why I bought a scooter,ā€ Alexander said adding, ā€œAt the end of the day you need those events. Thatā€™s why weā€™re all here especially if you work in industries that are booming by those events.ā€
