MIAMI – A verbal argument that “became physical” escalated when a resident of a downtown Miami high-rise pulled a rifle on another man, police said.

According to an arrest report, the whole thing stemmed from an “incident” earlier that day involving the building’s homeowners association manager.

Miami police arrested Ryan Wesley Shankman, 29, on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to an arrest report, building security staff had been sent to Shankman’s unit to remove him from the apartment at the 45-story One Miami West condominium tower, located at 325 S. Biscayne Blvd., at around 8 p.m. Monday.

That came after an altercation between the two; police said another witness told them she didn’t know who started the fight, but took video of Shankman and the victim fighting and “wrestling on the ground.”

The report doesn’t state whether the victim was a resident or employee at the building and doesn’t elaborate on what the two were arguing about or what the earlier “incident” entailed.

The security guards said that when they arrived, they went to talk with the victim and another verbal dispute ensued, leading the victim to close himself in the bedroom, police said.

They told police that Shankman then said, “I’m going to get the strap and handle this myself” and left the room knowing that Shankman was about to grab a gun, the report states.

Police said one of the guards told investigators that he saw Shankman “walk out of his room with a firearm and point it in the direction of the victim.”

The victim told police that Shankman pointed a rifle featuring “stock and red dot optic” at his head, the report states.

Police said Shankman admitted to going into his room to “grab one of his firearms” but said he didn’t point the weapon at the victim at any point.

Officers found two AR-style rifles and a Glock handgun in his closet, the report states.

Shankman was taken to Miami-Dade County’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was held on a $2,500 bond as of late Tuesday morning.
