CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sigma Alpha Epsilon has placed its chapter at the University of Miami on a “cease & desist” following allegations of hazing, a spokesman for the fraternity told Local 10 News Tuesday.
“The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity Service Center has received a report related to an alleged incident involving our Chapter at The University of Miami,” the spokesman said in a statement. “We have placed our Chapter on a Cease & Desist and are working jointly with the University to investigate.”

Officials at the university confirmed last week that they are investigating after at least two videos began circulating that show alleged hazing on its campus.
In one video sent to Local 10 News by an anonymous source, it shows a student squeezing himself into a trash can. He’s surrounded by others who look like they’re drinking milk, which they spit and/or vomit on the young man inside the can.
Local 10 reached out to UM earlier last week about the video, which has sparked concerns about hazing on campus.
A university official confirmed what is shown in the video happened on the grounds of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, which is located in the 1500 block of Liguria Avenue.
A university spokesman released a statement saying:
“The University of Miami has received multiple reports related to alleged conduct violations by one of our fraternity chapters. We are aware of videos being circulated but can only confirm the authenticity of one video. A full investigation is underway.”
Hazing isn’t just against University of Miami policy, it’s also against the law in Florida.
Members of the fraternity declined Local 10 News’ interview requests.
