Man dies after fight turns into shooting inside public bus in southern Miami-Dade

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – There was a dead man in the back of a public bus when police officers arrived at a crime scene on Saturday morning in southern Miami-Dade County.

The death investigation was along the Busway near Southwest 328 Street, in Florida City, according to Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

“The homicide scene is the bus,” Zabaleta said.

The man was the victim of a shooting inside a Miami-Dade transit bus that was traveling northbound on the Busway with 10 passengers, including the victim and the shooter.

“There was some type of an argument that came about in the rear of the bus among two individuals,” Zabaleta said.

The argument turned into a fight. Witnesses told police the bus driver stopped, opened the doors, and asked everyone to get out of the bus. One of the men fighting pulled out a gun and fired.

“The subject then fled the scene on foot,” Zabaleta said. “The Florida City Police Department later advised that the subject had come into the police station and surrendered himself.”

Detectives were asking anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
