Video shows Miami Beach police officer injured during shooting in Venetian Islands

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A witness recorded a video of a Miami Beach police officer who was shot in the leg as a suspect resisted arrest on Saturday in Venetian Isles.

The shooting happened while two police officers were struggling to arrest a man on the Venetian Causeway, between the Di Lido and Rivo Alto islands, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

Officer Christopher Bess, a spokesman for the department, said Miami police officers reported a “possibly armed suspect” was walking eastbound on the causeway.

Miami Beach fire rescue personnel used an ambulance to rush the police officer to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Bess reported the wounded officer’s condition was stable.

Miami Beach and Miami police officers asked the public to avoid the Venetian Causeway area “due to police activity.”

Bess also reported the shooting was not related to spring break tourists. He did not specify if the gun that was fired belonged to the officers or the suspect.
