CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Officials at the University of Miami are investigating after at least two videos began circulating that show alleged hazing on its campus.
In one video sent to Local 10 News by an anonymous source, it shows a student squeezing himself into a trash can. He’s surrounded by others who look like they’re drinking milk, which they spit and/or vomit on the young man in the can.
Local 10 reached out to the University of Miami earlier this week about the video, which has sparked concerns about hazing on campus.
A university official confirmed what is shown in the video happened on the grounds of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity on the 1500 block of Liguria Avenue.
A university spokesman released a statement saying:
“The University of Miami has received multiple reports related to alleged conduct violations by one of our fraternity chapters. We are aware of videos being circulated but can only confirm the authenticity of one video. A full investigation is underway.”
Hazing isn’t just against University of Miami policy, it’s also against the law in Florida.
Members of the fraternity declined Local 10 News’ interview requests and the fraternity’s national leadership has not replied to a request for comment as of the time of this story’s publishing.
