Off-duty Miami-Dade police officer shot at while driving with his family

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami-Dade police officers are investigating a shooting in North Miami Beach that involved an off-duty officer.

It happened late Tuesday afternoon in the area of Northeast 183rd Street and 18th Avenue.

According to police, the officer was driving when someone randomly shot at his car, which was struck on the back side.

The officer was with his family in his personal vehicle at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

No one inside the vehicle was hurt, and no bystanders were struck by gunfire, police said.

Officers spent several hours working the scene, taping off nearby businesses in search of clues that could lead them to a suspect.

Police said there was no interaction between the officer and the shooter and they had no idea why a gun was fired, but were considering several possibilities, including road rage.

Officers did not provide any subject description or vehicle information but urge anyone who knows something to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
