Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School evacuated over bomb threat

Nearby middle school on secure status

PARKLAND, Fla. – Officials evacuated students and staff at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School following a bomb threat Wednesday morning.

A Broward County Public Schools spokesperson said in a statement that the evacuation was a “precautionary measure” after the threat was called in over the phone. A Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said deputies were notified of the threat just after 8:20 a.m.

“All students and staff are safe, and the school is following all proper protocols,” the spokesperson said. “The Broward Sheriff’s Office immediately responded and is doing a thorough search of the campus. Parents have been informed of the evacuation and are asked to be patient during this process.”

Nearby Westglades Middle School was also on a “secure status” as a “precautionary” measure, the spokesperson said.

Parents were being urged not to pick up their children.

The spokesperson deferred further comment to BSO, which is investigating the threat.

The school was later given the all clear.
