Miramar Fire Rescue captain arrested on DUI charges

WESTON, Fla. – A Miramar Fire Rescue captain was arrested Monday on multiple DUI charges in Weston, authorities confirmed.

Jail records show Capt. Trond Krindell Welters, 59, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of DUI, DUI with damage to property or a person and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

A spokesperson for Miramar Fire Rescue released a statement Tuesday to Local 10 News, confirming that Welters has been employed by the agency for the past 28 years.

“This is an ongoing internal and external investigation which will preclude me from commenting any further at this time,” the spokesperson said.

A judge set Welters’ bond at $2,000, which he posted on Tuesday afternoon.

He was released from jail Tuesday evening but did not answer any questions from Local 10 News’ Cody Weddle.

Local 10 News has requested a copy of Welters’ arrest report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
