Over 7,000 strong join Dolphins Challenge fight against cancer at Hard Rock Stadium

NFL fundraiser benefits University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

MIAMI – Cancer patients, survivors, and their supporters participated in the annual Dolphins Challenge on Saturday in Miami-Dade County to support the only National Cancer Institute-designated center in South Florida.

Over 7,000 strong were cycling, running, and walking at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens to raise millions to benefit the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Local 10 News Reporter Janine Stanwood and her team participated in the 5-K challenge as part of a sporting event that has become the NFL’s top fundraiser.

Stanwood, a two-time survivor, was treated for breast cancer and thyroid cancer at the cancer center. She has been participating in the Dolphins Challenge for the last three years.

“We need to raise awareness for better treatment, cures, and better technology,” Stanwood said last year at the event.

In 2022, Stanwood wore the number 2473 and ran the 5-K in memory of her father, who died of a rare form of blood cancer.

Several members of the Local 10 News team and their relatives have also been patients of the cancer center.

This is a developing story.
