Police: 8-month-old baby kidnapped in Broward found safe

DAVIE, Fla. – An 8-month-old baby who was believed to have been kidnapped by her own parents was found safe Wednesday, Davie police confirmed.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement had issued an Amber Alert earlier in the morning for the baby girl from Broward County.

According to authorities, Amelia Martinez, of Davie, had last been seen Tuesday in the 4900 block of Southwest 148th Avenue in Davie.

Davie police confirmed that Amelia was dropped off at the Little Hands in Learning daycare center by her grandmother around 11 a.m.

She was then picked up around 1:40 p.m. by her father, Jacob Howard, and was passed off to an unknown person, possibly her mother, Arys Martinez, authorities said.

They said both the father and mother have had their parental rights terminated and Amelia is currently in ChildNet’s custody.

Investigators with the FDLE believed Amelia was with Arys Martinez, 34, and said they were believed to be traveling in a white Toyota Camry, heading to Orlando.

Police later confirmed that Amelia was found safe inside a home in the area of Northwest 215th Avenue and Eighth Court in Pembroke Pines.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department confirmed that its SWAT team assisted in retrieving Amelia from the home.

It’s unclear whether Howard or Arys Martinez will face charges.

“The investigation continues,” a spokesperson for Davie PD said.
