MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are searching for two people who forced their way into an apartment and shot one person who was inside.
The shooting was reported just after 3:40 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Northwest 95th Street and Seventh Avenue.
According to police, the victim, whom several neighbors identified as James Farrow, was shot several times.
They said the thieves got away with personal items, including the victim’s English Bulldog named Cleo, before fleeing the scene.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
Neighbors told Local 10 News that they were shocked the shooting happened in what they claim to be a quiet area.
“He would stop and have the dog and the dog would play with me,” said Ollie Washington, who lives nearby. “He (the victim) usually kept to himself unless it was a football game or basketball game going on.”
Police said the two people involved in the home invasion robbery and shooting are possibly known to the victim.
Several residents and employees, who asked not to be identified, say they want answers and security following the incident.
“They need to keep the gates locked and they need to put the cameras up,” said one man.
No other details were immediately released.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
