Passenger’s bomb joke on birthday falls flat on FLL jetway, earns him felony, deputies say

Mack Bjorn (BSO/WPLG)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man boarding a flight to San Francisco from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on his birthday ended up in jail after making an ill-advised bomb joke while on the jetway, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Deputies said Mack Bjorn, of Reno, Nevada, was boarding the JetBlue Airways flight on Saturday, his 27th birthday, when he “joked that (the) TSA had missed a bomb in his bag.”

According to the arrest report, when a flight attendant confronted him about the remark, he doubled down and “reaffirmed that the TSA missed the bomb in his bag.”

The report states that Bjorn was escorted from the jetway and placed under arrest; he invoked his right to an attorney. Authorities found no bomb.

A Broward County judge found probable cause to charge Bjorn with making a false report of a bomb, arson or weapon of mass destruction, a second-degree felony.

He was no longer listed in Broward jail records as of Tuesday.
