Wet, windy weather impacts events across South Florida

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Events across South Florida, from Art Wynwood to the Miami International Boat Show, took a big hit due to Sunday’s day of wind and rain.

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is another signature event that usually brings out tens of thousands of people.

“People are pretty savvy who come to outdoor events,” said Marshall Steingold. “They look at the weather, so a lot of people who would normally pack it on Sunday, came out Saturday which made it a much busier day.”

The festival, like many other events, saw a dip in attendance on Sunday.

The storms were very severe, so weather like that begs the question of how the artists protect their valuable pieces.

“The booths are all protected on four sides,” said Steingold. “Even if you can’t see it now, you can roll down the flaps, and when we went around yesterday, they were covered and they lock them up and have the tops on them, so the artists that come to these events — they are professionals.”

At the Boat Show, things went on as planned Sunday, but boats were covered up and the outside areas were closed.

All events had to be held indoors due to the relentless rain and wind as the show wrapped up Sunday.

As for the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, the show continues on, with Monday being the last day.
