LAUDERHILL, Fla. – The family and friends of Regina Vidal gathered in Las Olas Saturday for a two-mile walk to honor her life and shed light on domestic violence.
“She unfortunately passed away from gun violence,” said Regina Vidal’s best friend, Rebecca Silverman. “She was very loving, caring, energetic and spontaneous.”
Regina Vidal, 22, was shot and killed in the early hours of Jan. 27.
Lauderhill police say she was with a group inside an apartment where Hugo Lazo, 24, was dancing with a gun in his hand when it went off and struck Vidal, killing her.
Lazo has since been charged with manslaughter and is being held without bond at the BSO’s Main Jail.
Lauderhill police released the 911 calls of the moments after Regina Vidal was found shot in an apartment.
“Where’s the person that shot her?” asked the 911 operator to a screaming young woman on the line.
“I don’t know. I’m a minor. Please do something,” replied the caller.
Authorities say it was a case of manslaughter, but Vidal’s mother, Rae Marie Vidal believes there’s more to the story.
“Whether it’s today, tomorrow, or ten years from now, the truth will come out because I’m not going to be quiet about it,” she said.
Vidal’s mother claims those there during the shooting are not fully disclosing what unfolded and led to her daughter’s death.
“We have to hold them accountable and use them as an example for change so that no other mother, father, sibling, grandparent, nephew, niece, cousin, best friend or teammate has to bury their child,” said Rae Marie Vidal.
Lauderhill police, responding to Rae Mari Vidal’s concerns, said their investigation was ongoing as of Friday.
