Widow grieves after driver in stolen BMW kills ‘beloved’ family man in Miami-Dade and flees

Detective continues search for driver, passenger who ran away after fatal crash in Brownsville

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Anthony Darryl Manning was a beloved family man and co-worker. The 55-year-old Miami-Dade County resident was Glenda Manning’s husband and she was heartbroken Thursday.

He had purchased a scooter to go to and from work while his car was in a mechanic’s shop. He was riding it when the driver of a stolen sports utility vehicle struck and killed him.

“I can’t go on without him. He was my life,” Glenda Manning said. “He was a loving husband ... all he did was try to provide for my family.”

A Miami-Dade homicide detective has been searching for the driver since Feb. 6 when Anthony Manning died near his home in Miami-Dade’s Brownsville neighborhood. Glenda Manning called for justice and in her grief she had a message for the wanted fugitive: “Please, come forward! Please!”

The widow visited a growing memorial on Thursday. There were flowers, balloons, and notes on the sidewalk by a fence near the intersection of Northwest 22 Avenue and 54 Street.

The memorial was steps away from where Anthony Manning died. He was riding his new scooter northbound on 22 Avenue at about 6 a.m., according to police.

After the impact, a driver and a passenger jumped out of the stolen BMW and ran away. Fire rescue personnel pronounced him dead in the middle of the street.

Lonny Schnur wrote on a GoFundMe page that Manning was a member of Coastal Construction and was working on the K2 FIU Sweetwater Project, a 24-story off-campus student housing project.

Schnur described him as a “good-spirited” teammate and a co-worker who made others smile.

Detectives who distributed a flyer were asking anyone with information about the case to call 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
