TAMARAC, Fla. – A 31-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge after first responders found his ex-girlfriend dead following an apartment fire in Tamarac in December, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
BSO detectives determined that Laren Lenworth Emile, of Tamarac, was responsible for the homicide and fire that claimed the life of 29-year-old Keera Brabham, the mother of a 4-year-old child.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 26 in a unit at 7900 S. Colony Circle, part of the Versailles Gardens condominium complex, located near the corner of West McNab Road and North University Drive.
At the time, Brabham’s sister Stephanie Gladman said she, Brabham, and a few friends had been out at a club just hours before.
A city spokesperson said Brabham was the only person in the apartment at the time and said the fire was contained to her unit.
BSO’s V.I.P.E.R detectives made the arrest, a news release said. It did not specify how Brabham was killed.
Investigators said detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Emile and on Thursday, he was booked into the BSO’s Main Jail.
Jail records show Emile faces one count each of first-degree murder and arson. A motive for the killing remains unclear at this time.
