Child airlifted to hospital after being hit by vehicle near Miami-Dade elementary school

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A child was airlifted to a hospital Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle near a school in northwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed that they responded to the 500 block of Northeast 151st Street after receiving a call at 7:08 a.m.

The scene of the crash is located outside Biscayne Gardens Elementary School.

MDFR officials said multiple units were dispatched to the scene.

The child was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition as of Thursday evening.

Miami-Dade police said the driver who struck the boy remained at the scene following the incident. It is unclear if he or she will face any charges.

No other details were immediately released.
