Fort Lauderdale realtor reported missing nearly 2 weeks after traveling to Spain

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Ana Knezevich, 40, a realtor from Fort Lauderdale, disappeared while in Madrid, Spain on Feb. 2.

Almost two weeks later, there is still no trace of her.

Knezenvich’s best friend, Sanna Rameau, told Local 10 News that she received a bizarre text message on the day she vanished.

“I have met someone wonderful,” she wrote. “He has a house outside of Madrid— two hours (away). We are going there now and going to stay a few days. Signal is going to be spotty. I will call you when I get back.”

Rameau said Knezenvich had plans to go to Barcelona on Monday and claimed it’s not likely she would run off with a random stranger.

After flying to Madrid, Rameau said she made a disturbing discovery at her friend’s apartment building, just 30 minutes before she was reported missing.

“There was a man the same evening she disappeared who spray painted the surveillance cameras in her building with black paint,” she said.

Knezevich’s loved ones say they are frustrated authorities are not doing more to help find her.

Ana was an enthusiastic traveler but always kept in touch according to Rameau. She left the U.S. for Spain in December amid a tough divorce.

“Very sweet, very caring,” added Rameau. “I couldn’t imagine who would want to hurt her.”

Her husband of 13 years, who is now believed to be in Serbia, where he is from, has not gone to Spain to aid in the search.

Local 10 News visited the Fort Lauderdale home where the couple lived.

Neighbor Guy Jackman says the couple kept to themselves and he did see police talking to Knezenvich’s husband around the time she was reported missing.

“Last I saw of him, there was a cop car there a couple of weeks back,” Jackman said. “He was speaking to police.”

Knezenvich’s family has remained concerned after they have not been able to reach her and claim that she would always keep in contact with family.

Her loved ones hope investigators in the U.S. can do more to assist.

The U.S. Department of State says they are working on the case with Spanish authorities.
