PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after a crash left a motorcyclist dead on Interstate 75 in Pembroke Pines early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities confirmed the three-vehicle crash involved a 28-year-old man from Plantation who was confirmed dead at the scene by Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue personnel.
It happened just after 5 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-75, just south Pines Boulevard.
According to preliminary reports from the FHP, three vehicles were traveling north in the outside center general-purpose lane of I-75 when the motorcyclist approached the drivers from behind at a higher speed.
The motorcyclist failed to notice the speed difference between the vehicles and hit the vehicle’s bumper which led to a collision, investigators said.
The impact caused the motorcyclist’s 1997 black Harley Davidson to overturn and slide in a northwesterly direction, while a 2023 black Chevrolet Suburban Sport came to a controlled stop on the outside shoulder of the highway.
Authorities said the second car involved in the crash came to a stop on the inside shoulder of the highway.
FHP confirmed the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are still working to notify the next of kin. There were no other injuries reported.
The aftermath of the collision resulted in a closure of parts of I-75 as first responders worked to clear the scene and investigate the incident further.
Details regarding the cause of the collision and the condition of the other individuals involved remain under investigation.
Three right lanes and the Pines Boulevard off-ramp were temporarily shut down while authorities investigated but have since reopened.
