HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A pedestrian was immediately killed when he or she was struck by a Brightline train in Hollywood.
The accident occurred Friday morning in the area of North Dixie Highway and Taft Street.
Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 11:30 a.m. as the victim’s body remained on the ground, with the train stopped a short distance away.
It’s unclear why the pedestrian was on the tracks as the train was passing through.
Investigators in South Florida have repeatedly reminded pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers to stop, look and listen when crossing railroad tracks.
When a train is approaching, never go around the lowered safety arms and don’t stop on the tracks.
Authorities also said drivers should not underestimate the speed of any train. It may be traveling faster and be closer than you think. Even if the train engineer sees you, he or she will not be able to stop in time.
