Wheelchair-bound victim of brutal dog attack set to be released from hospital

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – A South Florida man is recovering after a vicious dog attack that was caught on camera.

Pierre Massey told Local 10 News he feels he is here for a reason.

“I’m just so grateful to be alive right now,” he said. “I can’t take any more for granted. I’m 50 years old. Life is beautiful.”

Massey is finding the beauty in life even after what he went through.

“You never know. You have to live every day to the fullest,” he said.

The attack took place on Jan. 24 and, ever since, Massey has been in a hospital bed.

He has been homeless for more than seven months and had issues with drugs, alcohol and mental health.

Police say both the dogs in the attack lived nearby in Florida City and belonged to a man who is currently in jail.

The dogs were taken by Miami-Dade Animal Services and euthanized.

“At one point, I just pretended like I was dead so they would stop biting me,” said Massey.

He is now truly trying to change his life and, as he leaves the hospital, he is asking for the public’s help.

“I think I’m going to live life to its fullest and be a help to someone else,” he said. “This has brought me back in touch with my family.”
