New videos show Hialeah teen speaking to mother moments before murder, calling 911 after

Derek Rosa, 13, remains in jail on murder charge

HIALEAH, Fla. – Newly-released doorbell camera videos show Derek Rosa speaking to his mother moments before police say he fatally stabbed her at their Hialeah apartment; they then show the 13-year-old calling police afterward.

Rosa is accused of murdering 39-year-old Irina Garcia as she slept next to his 14-day-old half-sister on Oct. 12 at the Amelia Oaks apartment complex, located at 211 W. 79th Place. A detective would later testify that the middle schooler stabbed his mother 46 times.

In the first clip, Garcia tells her son in Spanish not to run. He replies, also in Spanish, asking her why she always tells him not to run.

Seconds later, he re-enters the apartment.

Moments after this, police said the teen would fatally stab his mother with his newborn sister just inches away in her crib.

The doorbell camera video also captures Rosa as he speaks with a police dispatcher.

The teenager, after confirming his apartment number, asks, “I see officers, do I leave?”

“No, do not leave,” the dispatcher replies.

As the door closes, police lights flash in the distance.

Records show Rosa has a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 15.
