FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man and woman are facing charges in connection with a burglary ring in the upscale Victoria Park neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale that detectives say stole $400,000 worth of items from residents last year.
Rashad Corouthers, 33, and Bryanna Ingram, 31, are facing charges, including grand theft, burglary and dealing in stolen property, Fort Lauderdale police confirmed in a news release Tuesday.
Detectives began their investigation last September after they said a homeowner reported that a burglar had broken into their home through a hurricane glass window while he was on vacation with his family.
Over the next two months, Fort Lauderdale police said at least seven more burglaries were reported in the neighborhood, and all were carried out in a similar fashion.
While many victims weren’t able to catch the crooks on camera, one particular homeowner did.
Local 10 News obtained surveillance video from a resident last November that showed what appeared to be a tall individual with a hoodie and mask rummaging through the house with a flashlight and bag in hand.
That person was seen opening doors and drawers inside the home. The victim told Local 10 News that a safe, jewelry and even her father’s ashes were stolen during the break-in.
On Dec. 8, police said they stopped a car driven by Corouthers and found a stolen handgun that had been taken during one of the burglaries.
Ingram, who was a passenger in the car at that time, was also in possession of two purses belonging to a separate burglary victim, police said.
Detectives ended up searching the vehicle and the home where Corouthers and Ingram were living and found additional stolen items, including a pair of earrings that were the single most expensive item taken during the burglaries, police said.
Courthers was released after posting bond following the incident in December and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Once additional evidence was discovered in connection to the Victoria Park burglary case, police said Courthers and Ingram were both taken into custody and have been incarcerated at the Broward Main Jain since Jan. 3.
Authorities confirmed Ingram is facing charges that include dealing in stolen property and grand theft.
Jail records show Corouthers is facing three counts each of burglary and grand theft.
Police are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to call them at 954-828-5556 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
