Fire erupts in attic of Cutler Bay home

Active gas leak discovered inside home

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – Miami-Dade firefighters extinguished a blaze Wednesday morning that started in the attic of a home in Cutler Bay, first responders confirmed.

The fire was reported just after 3 a.m. at a home in the 19700 block of Belmont Drive.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials, firefighters arrived at the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke emitting from it.

The flames were extending to a nearby gazebo.

According to officials, firefighters extinguished the flames while discovering that the fire had started in the attic of the home.

Crews also discovered an active gas leak inside the home.

According to officials, firefighters were able to mitigate the leak and the gas company was notified.

The home was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
