MIAMI – Security issues and data privacy are the main reasons one in four organizations are banning the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence, or GenAI, according to Cisco’s new study.

The California-based multinational digital communications tech conglomerate recently released the 2024 Data Privacy Benchmark Study reporting that over 90% believe AI complicates data and risk management and nearly 100% recognize privacy is an important factor in buying decisions.

The researchers also cited that the ongoing GenAI digital transformation has raised concerns over property rights and non-public information disclosures.

These concerns, the study reports, are to blame for over 60% of organizations imposing limits on GenAI tool use and nearly 30% deciding to ban the tools altogether. GenAI is already being applied to research in science, industrial applications, security, and healthcare.
