Teenage basketball players displaced during Israel-Hamas war arrive at Miami-Dade

Week-long adventure includes Miami Heat game

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A group of 24 teenage boys and their basketball coach Sagee Katav arrived on Tuesday at Miami International Airport from Israel.

Some of them were displaced from the kibbutz, agricultural settlements, near the Gaza border after the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.

“It’s only the second time the kids are together since the last four months,” Katav said at MIA.

Their week-long itinerary includes attending a Miami Heat game and meeting some National Basketball Association players.

Most of the teenagers will be staying with host families in Miami-Dade County’s Pinecrest community after visiting Hollywood in Broward County and Boca Raton in Palm Beach County.

Two nonprofit organizations, The Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Project Twenty Four, sponsored their trip to help the teens forge long-term relationships.
