Student surrenders to police after peer stabbed with steak knife at Miami-Dade high school

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A student who is accused of attacking one of his peers Thursday has turned himself in to authorities, police confirmed.

Police said the student initially fled the scene, prompting a large response from police.

He was identified Friday as Dadley Romain, 16.

According to his arrest report, Romain was spotted standing outside the North Miami Beach Police Station just before 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police said he told an officer he “did something bad at school” and wanted to turn himself in to police.

Miami-Dade Schools Police said it was around lunch-time Thursday when two ninth graders at North Miami Beach Senior High School agreed to meet near the bleachers in the back of the school to fight one another.

Investigators said it was during that fight that Romain pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the other.

According to his arrest report, Romain confessed that he stabbed the victim with a steak knife that he had taken from his kitchen. He said he was holding it in his right hand, covering it with his bookbag, before he stabbed the victim once in the upper rib cage, the report stated.

Sky 10 was above the school Thursday as the victim was airlifted to the hospital.

The incident prompted a massive response from police who locked down the school, searching for Romain.

Concerned parents, meanwhile, rushed over to check on the safety of their children.

“You gotta be scared about what’s going on in there, and your kids are in there, so it’s scary” parent Yajaira Rojas said.

Local 10 has learned that the injured student is in stable condition.

Police said Romain refused to confirm who picked him up from school Thursday or where the knife is at currently.

Romain faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with great bodily harm, exhibiting a weapon on school property and interference/disruption of an educational institution.
