Police: Suspect takes off in Miramar police car after being stunned with Taser

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A man was arrested early Friday morning after he stole a police car in Miramar, authorities said.

According to Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues, officers responded to the 12000 block of Southwest 26th Street, the Martinique Condominium, at 1:48 a.m. after someone called 911 to report that a suspicious person was banging on the door to their home.

Rues said the suspect, identified as Marques Johnson, 40, rushed the responding officers “in an aggressive manner” while making threats toward them.

She said the officers deployed their Tasers multiple times, but the suspect continued to resist their efforts to take him into custody.

According to Rues, Johnson eventually broke free from the officers and jumped into the driver’s seat of a police car, fleeing the area before crashing into a gate.

Rues said the vehicle became immobilized and the suspect was taken into custody.

According to Rues, Johnson was transported by Miramar Fire Rescue to Memorial Regional Hospital to be evaluated before being taken to jail.
