Exclusive video shows handcuffed man escape Lauderhill police

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Gerald Pendergrass

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities are still on the hunt for a man who managed to escape from police after being handcuffed in Lauderhill last month.

Gerald Pendergrass, 31, managed to escape while police were trying to take him into custody on an outstanding aggravated retail theft warrant originating from Palm Beach County back on Dec. 28, according to investigators.

Exclusive body cam video shows Pendergrass talking to Lauderhill police as they placed him in handcuffs.

“You’ve got warrants from Palm Beach,” said a police officer.

“You are probably talking about my brother,” Pendergrass responded. “We have the same last name.”

Pendergrass was heard on body cam video trying to convince officers they had the wrong guy before he took off running while locked in handcuffs and a foot chase ensued.

Authorities said Pendergrass hasn’t been seen since and asked for the public’s help Friday to help locate him.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Anyone with info is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
