WESTON, Fla. – A disturbing situation unfolded in Weston on Tuesday after it was discovered that something was killing birds and squirrels outside a shopping center.
The incident at Weston Town Center, located at 1675 Market Street, is believed to be due to the unauthorized hiring of a pest control company.
A lawyer for Belmont Investment Corporation, which owns the Weston Town Center, confirmed to Local 10 News that a tenant hired a pest control company to control birds that were disrupting outdoor dining areas.
The legal counsel went on to say the tenant told property management the pest company assured them birds would not be harmed.
Local 10 News is not naming the restaurant, as the management company has yet to confirm which tenant hired the unauthorized pest control service.
A manager at the restaurant told Local 10′s Samiar Nefzi that they did not hire the pest control company.
“We had nothing to do with it. We didn’t do anything wrong,” the manager said, adding that any additional questions should be referred to the company’s corporate office, which was aware of the situation.
Local 10 has reached out and is waiting for a response.
Management said the tenant, which they did not name, hired the company without consent, something management said they would have denied.
This has already escalated to involve law enforcement.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Local 10 News that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking into allegations of the birds being poisoned.
