Cops say fence fraudster who scammed South Florida seniors likely has more victims

They’re asking anyone scammed by Omar Lopez to come forward

DORAL, Fla. – Miami-Dade police say fake contractor Omar Ramiro Lopez promised his victims new fences, but only had fraud to offer.

Now, two weeks after arresting the 61-year-old Palmetto Bay man, detectives are asking additional victims to come forward.

Authorities arrested Lopez on Jan. 10 after accusing him of taking nearly $14,000 from three victims, two of whom were seniors.

They all hired him to do fence work, police said, but Lopez never pulled permits and never did any work.

Police said the victims, who lived in Cutler Bay and unincorporated Miami-Dade County, entered into contracts with Lopez, doing business as “Horizon Structural Developers,” in May.

Police said an investigation revealed that “Horizon Structural Developers” was on shaky ground. Lopez, they said, wasn’t in the state’s contractor licensing system and was instead using another contractor’s license information without permission.

Lopez’s arrest reports list his occupation as “Uber.”

“During his interview, he confessed that he had possibly done this to about nine more people,” Miami-Dade police Detective Geordi Estepan said.

Anyone who believes they were victimized by Lopez is asked to call the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Economic Crimes Unit at 305-994-1000.
