Search continues for rapist who targeted teen walking in Pembroke Pines

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Residents in Pembroke Pines remain on edge following the rape of a 17-year-old girl on Sunday.

They are hoping for an image of a suspect or news of a capture.

“Times like this, you’ve got to be extremely careful,” concerned resident Donovan Major said. “Many people are afraid because of the incident (Sunday), including my own mother.”

Police are turning up the heat, spending hours scanning video just to get a glimpse of the perp.

The crime happened at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sunday when the girl was walking in the area of 1400 S. Flamingo Road.

That’s when police said a man approached her from behind, covered her mouth and pulled her into nearby bushes, where he raped her.

Police have since released the following update:

“Detectives have now canvassed the entire plaza and have collected multiple videos that are currently being reviewed for any investigative leads.”

Local 10 News learned that officers spent about five hours at the Bravo supermarket alone, managers said.

The subject is described as a man in his 20s or 30s with dark hair who was wearing a white polo shirt with black jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
