He said about 35 minutes later, a white Chevrolet Equinox parked in front of him as he was servicing the machine and two male passengers exited the vehicle, one of whom was wearing a mask and black gloves.
According to the report, one thief pushed him back and grabbed a cassette from the ATM, handed it over to the other thief and the two then fled the scene in the Chevy.
The driver remained in the vehicle.
Police said the ATM onboard computer indicated that $38,240 in $20 bills was missing.
According to the report, as the driver of the Chevy was fleeing the scene with the other culprits, the SUV crashed into another vehicle.
Police said the driver of the Chevy continued driving away, but the other driver followed the vehicle and got its tag before flagging down a nearby police officer.
According to the report, two officers then followed the Chevy and saw two men walking on the sidewalk as the vehicle sped away.
Those two men took off on foot as they saw the marked police car and began jumping fences in an attempt to get away from the officers, authorities said.
Police said the stolen cassette from the ATM was found in a nearby resident’s trash bin.
About 15 minutes later, one of the suspects, Kedrick McGee, of Houston, Texas, was found by canine units hiding in the yard of a home about a block away, authorities said.
According to his arrest report, McGee was carrying a backpack that had a large amount of $20 bills inside, consistent with the amount of money stolen from the ATM cassette.
He was arrested on charges of strong-arm robbery while wearing a mask and resisting an officer without violence.
Police said he invoked his right to not speak with detectives.
As of Monday, he remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
