MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police Officer Miguel Lomeli appeared in court Friday as the state decided to drop all charges against him.
Lomeli, 32, was arrested by his own department last month after police said he got into a violent dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

According to police, on Dec. 6, Lomeli got into an argument with the woman outside of her home in Homestead before grabbing her and taking her inside the residence where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Local 10 News learned that Lomeli’s ex-girlfriend is also a police officer at a South Florida law enforcement agency.
Lomeli was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he was initially being held without bond.
The state did not disclose in court Friday why it came to the decision not to pursue charges against Lomeli.
“Today, the state took no action in the case,” Lomeli’s attorney told reporters outside the courtroom. “We’re very grateful for their decision, on behalf of Mr. Lomeli’s family, friends and obviously his attorneys.”
Lomeli’s attorney said his client remains on paid leave from the Miami-Dade Police Department. It’s unclear whether he will now return to his normal duties.
